This is the homepage for Copycat Tapes! We are a cassette distribution company that focuses on indie artists. All our tapes are professionally printed and made to order, as such we have no minimum order amounts. This means that you don't need to have a large sum of money to get a tape made with us, unlike our competitors.

Our Mission

As the cassette revial continues, many artists who want to release their music onto cassette are being priced out of the format. While you could make tapes at home, they won't look professional and vintage equipment (the only kind that can make good quality recordings) are getting harder and harder to find in working condition, and when they are, they're very expensive. This is where we come in. All our inserts and labels are professionally printed and our tapes are recorded on a vintage high quality deck. Unlike our competitors who require you to order 24 cassettes at a time, we have no order minimum. Whether you only order 1 tape or 1000, we will still assist you with your tape release.

Why Cassettes? Isn't That A Dead Format?

Cassettes are once again popular, especially for indie releases. In the past 7 years, sales have increased by 443%! Many love collecting the format as its a much cheaper way to collect analog music without buying vinyl. They are much smaller and easy to store, ontop of sounding amazing when properly recorded.

Why Were You Created?

One of our founders, Venus, wanted to release their album onto cassette. After doing some research, they came to the conclusion that there was no easily affordable way to make high quality professional cassettes. This needed to end, so with their partner Justin, they created Copycats to solve this issue. Now not only did they have a cheap way to get high quality cassettes, there was a significantly higher profit margin when selling cassettes compared to CD or vinyl. The first run of tapes they made sold out in 1 day.

What Equipment Do You Use?

We source high quality blank tapes from Canada and record them on a Sansui D-370 Cassette deck. The deck is a direct drive deck from 1982, so there is pratically no speed variation, meaning your cassettes will sound great. We also have the ability to encode tapes with Dolby B and C noise reduction, unlike our competitors. To record to the tape, we have a DAP (Digital Audio Player) plugged into the back. We then play your submitted lossless files to record to tape. We also do not use tape duplicators, just individual decks. This means that all our tapes will have the same quality as the master, instead of going through multiple levels of degredation.
